FAQ
I bought my books from RMIT courses last year, so why is my book not on the buyback list?
There can be a number of reasons why some books make it on our list and others don't.
The main ones are:
• The textbook has gone into a new edition in the past few months so we can't by back the old out-of-date version
• The textbook was used in previous years, but for 2011 the subject is using a different textbook.
• The textbook has multiple special components that mean secondhand copies can't be used by other students.
• Our current buyback is for textbooks being used in Semester 1, 2011. Therefore, textbooks used for Semester 2
subjects are unlikely to be on the list. Try again at the end of Semester 1 - you might find it is on our list then.
If your textbook is not on our buyback list, you might find that another university bookstore may have it on theirs. There are also online services available for students to trade textbooks. RMIT students can login to MyRMIT
hyperlnk to : http://www.rmit.edu.au/browse/Current%20students%2FServices%2FIT%20services%2FAbout%20myRMIT/ to place classified ads for used textbooks.
How much do you pay for books?
We buy back textbooks for approximately 40% of the current Recommended Retail Price.
Can I reserve a secondhand book?
Because we don't know which books or how many copies students will bring to us to sell, we can't take advanced orders for secondhand textbooks. Secondhand textbooks go out on the shelf as soon as they are processed, so the earlier you visit our stores, the better your chance of picking up a secondhand copy (before the start of semester is the best time).
The fine print:
• 2 forms of identification must be provided in order to sell back books (this is a legal requirement).
• All titles and editions must match exactly, so check the 13-digit ISBN to make sure your books are correct. This can
be found on the barcode of your book.
• A reasonable amount of wear-and-tear and highlighting of books is fine, but we reserve the right to reject any titles
deemed unsaleable, or for any other reason.
• Textbooks must have all their original components such as CDs-in order to be sold back.
• Textbooks must be taken to the branch specified on the list. For example, books appearing on our Bundoora store
buyback list must be sold back at the Bundoora store.
• If you are looking for second hand textbooks to buy, you can search through all our second hand listings for in-stock
items. |
